How it all began, part 4!

If you missed parts one, two and three....go here, here and here! I think this will pretty much sum up the birth stories!

Ladies that don't have kids yet, read with caution!

My pregnancy with Peyton was not so peachy. NOBODY told me that after you already have a baby, each pregnancy after that you have A LOT more aches and pains! I had trouble with my heart and ended up having to go to a heart doctor who couldn't find anything wrong. I know something was wrong because I would just be sitting or lying down and my heart would just start racing like it was about to pop out of my chest! It was crazy and scary!

When Griffin was 15 months old he had tubes put in his ears. That afternoon after his surgery I had my 38 week check up. Josh was in the academy at the time and really couldn't miss any class and Mom stayed at our house with Griff. I went to my appointment and Dr. R asked if I wanted to induce the next week. Of course I jumped at the chance. He left the room to call and schedule with the hospital. When he came back he told me that they didn't have any openings the next week but they had the next day if I wanted to do that! Ummmm, I said YES! (hind sight I would have said no, for the record!) Dr. R said that if I changed my mind to just call him that night and let him know. I told him that I would see him bright and early the next morning!

I raced home so excited and when I got there I came barreling through the door, "TOMORROW!!! We're having this baby tomorrow!" Mom and Josh didn't believe me! They really seriously thought that I was joking! We still hadn't even decided on a name yet!! I think I've blogged about that before....long story short, we thought we wanted to name him Peyton but were still undecided, I packed my baby name book and we actually picked out his full name while I was in labor. Of course I got exactly what I wanted! :)

The next morning we strolled into the hospital and got settled in a room. Labor was pretty uneventful. Around 3 or 4 it was time to push. I pushed and pushed and pushed for what seemed like forever and made no progress. It's not that I didn't know how to push because I had just done this 15 months before. I started to think that something wasn't right. Mom kept saying that she thought the baby was face up instead of face down like he should be. My nurse kept saying that no he wasn't. Ding dong she was SO wrong. I was getting worn out fast and Dr. R came in to check on me. We told him that we thought he was face up, he checked and baby was face up or sunny side up as some call it! Little did I know that sunny side up would make for a way more traumatic birth than I had had before. I had to have an episiotomy...which I felt him cut...hurt like I can't even tell you. Not sure why I felt it because I had an epidural and he numbed it. He had to basically shove the forceps in and turn the baby himself. And he had to use the vacuum. If I hadn't pushed so hard before we realized that he was indeed face up, I would have had to have a c-section. At 6:21pm, Peyton made his very grand entrance weighing in at 7 pounds 4 ounces and he was 21 1/4 inches long! So, in the end it was all worth it but it was no fun. And definitely NOT easy. Poor baby Peyton had a huge bruise on the top of his head for a few days. :( But he was still perfect to Mommy, Daddy and Big Brother Griffin!

Oh, and I forgot one little part! Allison was not allowed to stay in while I was pushing because I was afraid of what happened when I had Griff would happen again. She could come in periodically to be the mediator between us and the waiting room. The very last time she came in before he was born, remember I had been pushing FOREVER, she walked in the room and said, "Everybody sent me down here to get an update." I said not so nicely, "YOU TELL THEM THAT EVERYTHING IS THE EXACT SAME AS WHEN THEY SENT YOU DOWN HERE 15 MINUTES AGO AND I WILL LET THEM KNOW WHEN THE BABY GETS HERE!!!!" She ducked out of the room, she knew I wasn't yelling at her and she knew that I wanted her to tell them exactly what I said. And she did. And I still haven't lived it down! :)

HA HA HA! Things come flying out of your mouth when you are trying to have a baby!

How it all began, back it up!

As I was getting ready to write part four of this little series I realized that I left out a fun little story in part two, Griffin's birth!

I was 20 when Griffin was born so that would make Allison 15. At that point she wanted to be a nurse when she "grew up" and really wanted to be in the room when I delivered. I didn't mind at all, plus she had just started dating Brad and I thought it would be fantastic birth control. Or rather, don't have sex 'til you're way older control! ha!

Turns out that was a pretty good idea of mine!

As I was pushing Allison was holding one of my legs, Josh was holding the other, my mom was taking pictures and Josh's mom was helping me hold my head up!(told you I pushed for a long time!)

Sidenote: It may seem gross that my mom was taking pictures. At the time I was thinking, "What the heck is she doing taking pictures of this?!?!" But I am so glad that she did. I obviously couldn't see what was going on and it all happens so fast when the baby comes out. Afterwards I had those to look back on. It really is a beautiful thing when your child is born!

Anywho, back to Allison. I was pushing and pushing and pushing when all of a sudden I heard someone saying, "Are you ok? You need to sit down. Sit back here in this chair and I'll get you a cold rag." I looked up to see my wannabe nurse sister about to pass out, white as a ghost, eyes rolling back in her head!

I do not kid!

As her dream of being a nurse went flying out the window I continued to push, with one eye on her. I couldn't concentrate until she was ok. After a few minutes she was fine, but she wasn't about to be responsible for holding my leg anymore! LOL!

And that, my friends, is the reason that I just now got a nephew out of those two!

How it all began, part 2!

This may get a little graphic and may have more details than you would like to hear!

After the wedding was over we quickly settled in and enjoyed the little time we were going to have together alone! October rolled around and we anxiously awaited our little bundle of joy! There are LOTS of October birthdays in our family and the bets were on to see who's birthday he would land on! My Granddaddy's birthday is the 1st, and that came and went with no baby, Aunt Janna's birthday is the 2nd-still no baby, Big Mama's birthday is the 8th-no baby, my little brother Kody's birthday, the 11th-no baby! And then Aunt Katie's birthday rolled around, the 13th. It's funny because at the end of that day I was like, "Well, dang! At this rate it's gonna be on Gigi's birthday and that's at the end of the month! UGH!" So, I took a long walk, then a warm bath, then ate spaghetti, then Josh and I you know.

Welllllllll, at 2:45 the next morning, October 14th and Uncle Matt's birthday I woke up and thought I peed in the bed! I jumped up and ran to the bathroom and peed, a lot. Then it hit me! There's no way I could pee that much if I peed all in the bed! My water was broke! I stood up from the toilet and it just came pouring! whooo hooo! I ran back in the bedroom, yanked back the covers, woke Josh up, "My water just broke!!!!!!" He jumped up straight out of bed still butt naked, I am not even kidding you!!!!! So, I called my Mom. She and Allison both answered at the same time like they were just sitting by the phone at 3am! I told them that my water just broke and Mom was all calm and said, "ok, well just wait for your contractions to start and start timing them." "Heck no! Dr. R told me to call him as soon as my water broke! Bye." Then I called Dr. R and he told us he would meet us at the hospital.

Officer Hubby got to the hospital in about two seconds like this child was going to come flying out before we could get there. ha. ha. ha. No such luck. My contractions never started so when the 7 o'clock nurses came in we got things started. I get the star treatment at that hospital because my grandmother helped get the women's pavilion started there and worked in labor and delivery until the lupus was so bad she couldn't work anymore. It's sad now because she isn't here to boss them around and tell them how to do things with her granddaughters! They are doing a special thing over there where they plan to name one of the operating rooms after her or something so stay tuned for that post!

Anyway, back to G-man! After I was about one cm dilated I got an epidural. I can't stand pain. There was NO WAY I was going to try to prove anything by going natural! The day progressed really normal and by evening I was ready to push. I don't remember how long I had to push, a couple of hours I know! By the time he was born, my epidural was no longer working and even the extra medicine they give you in it wouldn't work, so I FELT EVERYTHING! OUCH! But, at 9:04 pm, sweet baby Griffin made his grand entrance! 7 pounds 2 ounces and 21 inches of sweet baby boy!
A few weeks later my mom was keeping Griffin and was at the mall with him. Remember that nurse that kept telling me my birth control wasn't going to work? Well, Mom and G ran into her at the mall! ha! Mom told her that her talk with me did NO good, obviously! :)

Baby Girl's Story!

Baby Girl will have her own Happy Birthday post on Saturday so, for the sake of our blog, I give you her birth story! (Don't worry-no yucky details!)

On Thursday, December 20, 2007, my sweet Hubby and I walked into the hospital to be induced. We were told to be there at 6:00am so we arrived at 5:50am. :) We walked to the nurses station and there was no one there. We waited and a nurse rounded the corner running. We told her that we were there to be induced and she said,"We don't have any rooms!" We felt like Mary and Joseph-no joke! ha! Thankfully, they put us in a triage room until they had another room come available---there were about 25 babies there! I think I would have died if they would have sent me home! Around 7:ish Nurse Tammy arrived. We went over ALL that paperwork and then around 8:ish she started my pitocin. I was only about 1 cm dialated and had been that way for about 2 weeks! ughh! By noon I was 5 cm..still in no pain..and my real room was ready! So we moved! An hour or so later I told Nurse Tammy that I felt funny...I can't explain to you how or what I felt, but I knew something wasn't right. The nurse glanced over to the fetal heart monitor and I could see the look of panic on her face. She kicked everyone but Mom and Josh out of the room. Baby Girls heart rate was 25-30.....no freakin joke! For those who don't know "normal"is around 150ish! We were so scared! In came several more nurses. I was thrown back in the bed practically on my head and they put an oxygen mask on me. They called my doc and he was in there fast. I can not even tell you how terrified I was! I finally made eye contact with Josh and we stared at each other, he calmed me down and I knew then that it would be ok! The doc said that this happens in about 1 out of 5 deliveries. We decided to go ahead and get the epidural instead of waiting until I really needed it. It was supposed to help her heart rate stay up as well. The Anesthesiologist came in and boy was he an ASS! I couldn't really hear what he was telling me to do because he was talking so softly and the oxygen was blowing in my face and I guess he got frustrated. At one point he said to me, "OK this is the last time I am trying." I thought Josh was going to come across the bed and kill the man! After that was all over, it was smoothe sailing! I never felt any pain! Around 4:25 I started to feel that pressure! YAY 10 cm! Time to push! I started to cry! I could not believe that she was about to be here! We called my doc and he said to try not to push until he got to the parking lot. Do you know how hard that is?!?!?!? A few minutes later he called and before I could even start to push he was standing in front of me! He was literally running! I pushed through two contractions(6 pushes) and Josh and I were amazed because he could see her! I pushed through the next contraction and she was here-4:46pm! Beautiful Beautiful...and a HEAD FULL of hair! She weighed in at 7 pounds and was 19 inches long--our smallest baby so far!
