Our First Broken Bone(s)

Well friends, we have experienced our first broken bone with our kids. And, of course, we can't do anything simple so it's actually THREE broken bones.

Last Thursday, when the boys arrived home from football practice Griffin was limping. My heart sank. He said another child fell on it at practice but that the trainers thought it was just sprained. My mommy heart thought otherwise but the hubs and I decided to give it a day or so. The next day my poor baby went to school and hobbled around all day. I decided if he wasn't WAY better the next day we were having it x-rayed. Saturday rolled around and it wasn't better so Josh took him to the doctor. I stayed at home with the other kiddos because we are working on switching Brooks and Reece's rooms! After about an hour and a half I text the hubs to check in and he sent this back...

It would be safe to say I had a complete come-apart. Like, it was bad. The other three kids came to my rescue and were super sweet and calmed me down. I know it's not my fault but if I would have listened to my mommy instinct he wouldn't have walked around for two days like that. SO MAD AT MYSELF!

But, he thinks it's cool...

On Tuesday he had surgery. They placed a few pins in his foot that will stay in for about a month and then they will come out. Ouch. Let me tell you how tough this kid is. Before the surgery, he had NO pain medication...he was in NO PAIN. Blows my mind. And, even since surgery, he doesn't complain hardly at all. He is such a trooper and we are so proud of him!

This was us post-surgery..just hanging out and having a Netflix day! Love my Griff!

Pirate Baby

This morning before we came to work Brooks scratched himself in the eye. (YES, his nails are trimmed, he just happened to catch it just right.)  I know from experience that the eye usually heals quickly. (Griffin scratched Peyton in the eye when they were babies accidentally one night and by the time I got him to the doctor the next morning it was completely healed.) Once we got to work I could see the spot in his eye. As the morning went on he got fussier and fussier, he’s pretty much always a happy baby so I knew he was in pain. Tylenol didn’t help and well that’s pretty much all he can have at this age. I called the pediatrician and they wanted to see him right away. Only catch was we had to see the only doctor in the practice that I don’t care for. But, I knew he needed to be seen quick so off we went.

By the time we arrived at the doc’s office it was starting to swell and was red…

But after waiting an hour on the doctor we looked like this!!!

MUCH better! The doctor came in(I really tried to have a good attitude about it before I went since I already didn’t care for him) and of course he ticked me off right off the bat. “It looks fine. Doesn’t look like anything is wrong.”

Let me tell you something Mommas!!! NO ONE, no doctor, no nurse, no friend, no granny, NO ONE knows your baby/child like you do. YOU have intuition like no other and if you feel like something is wrong, you fight on!

So I did! ;)

I told him that I SAW a scratch and I KNEW it was there. Even though it wasn’t as visible as before to the naked eye. So. We, as in me, a nurse and the doc, had to hold my sweet baby down for like 20 minutes to numb his eye and put dye in it so that the doctor could look at it. And guess what…there is an abrasion. Well, no crap. He was very sweet to B while all this was going on though. I will give him that. We all three really just wanted to cry with him. Oh and he kept calling him “her'” but we’re all used to that at this point. HA!

And now we have a really special glowing eye! His tears glow, his snot is glowing, etc. HAHA! Bless it. We have to put a prescription gel in it for 5 days and put a patch on if we go outside! Oh, and we now weigh 18 pounds!

Let Cascade do the dirty work!

Soooooo, last night I had bunco. Thank goodness for bunco, it’s always much needed girl time! While I was away Josh had the kids. They went to ToysRUs and who knows what else they got into. After they got home they ate supper and were just hanging out. Griffin spent some money he had been saving on a game for his Nintendo DS and Peyton managed to talk Josh into another Xbox game. Anywho, Reece was running the house since I was away and apparently disappeared for a minute. She was in the kitchen, Josh was in the living room. All of a sudden she came running up to Josh and puked! Come to find out, she decided to taste one of these!

What on earth made her want to do that? She helps me wash dishes all.the.time and knows what they are for!!!! Geeze!

Josh called poison control who told him to give her plenty of liquids. And they said that since she puked so fast she was probably ok. And she was.

We’re planning on heading to the beach tomorrow. I hope the oil holds off…don’t get me started on the oil issue! We were going to have a no kids beach trip but we decided that we would rather take them with us. We are expecting a BIG life change very soon so we may not be able to go again for a little while. And, NO, I’m not pregnant. :)

The Finger.

Geeeeeeze! I am learning so much from these two boys! Last night Josh and I were cuddled up on the couch watching Juno(very good movie, btw) when we heard some yelling back and forth between the boys. Neither one of us budged. That's pretty normal about once a day at our house. Just a little brotherly love. Until.....we heard Master P screaming to the top of his lungs. He came running in the living room to me, I took one glance at his finger...OH HEAVENS~it's broke! Josh looked at it and agreed. G-man had smashed it in the bathroom door. You could see the bone!!! I thought I was going to throw up!!! NO kidding! Normally that kind of thing doesn't bother me, but this time it did! So, Josh took control of the situation while I called mom to come and look at it. As it started to swell Josh and Mom decided that it wasn't broken. I wasn't so sure. And I wouldn't be able to sleep until it was looked at. Thankfully Med-South stays open until 10pm so I didn't have to take him to the ER. We were in and out of there in about an hour. The doc took an x-ray and it's not broken. Sorry, no pics, the camera was at the office.

By the way, if you are ever bored, come to the our house! We pretty much run a three ring circus! If we are not swallowing change, we're smashing fingers! Cheap entertainment! HA!
